Heroez Coding Club
The Heroez Coding Club is designed to show young people what they are capable of. In a supportive environment, participants aged 11 to 18 learn to code, explore cybersecurity, build projects of their own, and work alongside peers who share their curiosity. It is not just about technical skills. It is about confidence, creativity, and showing young people that a career in tech is genuinely within reach, regardless of their background.
Why Coding Club Matters
The UK faces a cybersecurity workforce gap of unprecedented scale: the domestic workforce dropped 4.9% to 349,360 professionals, the largest decline worldwide (ISC2 2024). Meanwhile, women make up just 17% of the UK cyber workforce, dropping to 12% in senior roles (DSIT 2025). The pipeline problem starts early, and if we want a diverse, capable future workforce, we need to reach young people before career paths narrow. Every club runs on Hero Skool, which gives members 17 Coding Club courses and 69 lessons across three levels, with browser-based Python so there is nothing to install.
Most young people never get the chance to try cybersecurity or serious programming before choosing their GCSEs. Coding Club is built to change that. It will meet young people where they are, in schools, community centres, and libraries, with hands-on experience that goes further than a classroom lesson can. No prior experience needed. No expensive equipment required. Just curiosity.
What Members Learn
The curriculum is built and published on Hero Skool: 17 courses and 69 lessons, grouped into three levels so a member can start from zero. Several courses finish with something built rather than just read, including a personal profile page, a mini quiz app, a text adventure and a project of the member's own design.
- +Beginner, 5 courses. Python Foundations, Web Foundations, Cyber Basics, How the Internet Works and Game Design Basics. Members write their first Python program, build a profile page in HTML and CSS, and learn what passwords, encryption and packets actually do.
- +Intermediate, 8 courses. Python Power-Ups, Interactive Web with JavaScript, Secure Coding 101, Databases and SQL, Data Science with Python, Build Games with Python, Git and Teamwork, and Building and Creating with AI.
- +Advanced, 4 courses. Build with Python, covering objects, classes and a mini-project of the member's own design, plus AI and Machine Learning Foundations, Ethical Hacking Foundations, and Game Dev Concepts: Idea to Playable.
- +Nobody is locked into a track. All 17 courses open up the moment a member joins the club, grouped by level, so a facilitator can start a group where it makes sense and let individuals move at their own pace.
More Than Code
Technical skills are only part of the picture. Coding Club also builds confidence, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving: skills that transfer into every area of life. Sessions are designed so members present their projects to peers, give and receive feedback, and learn to work through frustration when things do not work the first time, which in programming they rarely do.
Members showing serious aptitude and interest will be able to move into our Mentorship programme, which is already running and connects young people with working professionals in cybersecurity and tech. Mentors provide career guidance, help with certifications, and open doors that might otherwise stay closed.

All Coding Club activities run on Hero Skool, our learning platform. Members work through lessons in the browser, opening with a short starter quiz and closing with a knowledge check, and run Python without installing anything, so learning continues between sessions. Across the curriculum that is 138 checks and 20 coding challenges that run in the browser. The challenges are Python, so the Python and data courses are the hands-on ones and the web, database, cyber and AI courses are taught through lessons and quizzes. Facilitators use the educator dashboard to enrol members into the club and see who has completed what.
Where and When
Coding Club is ready to run, and we are booking the first ones now, in schools, libraries and community centres across the West Midlands. Everything runs on Hero Skool in the browser, so a club needs a room and devices with internet access, and nothing to install.
